FEEDING YOUR BETTA

HMPK RED DRAGON
BETTA PELLETS

Feeding your betta/s is a fairly easy task. They tend not be fussy eaters and will eat most things that are provided to them.

Bettas are Omnivores, which means they eat both meat and plant matter, bettas are also top feeders, meaning that they eat mainly from the surface of the water,

There are many products on the aquatic market that make feeding your bettas relatively easy

However it is very important that you feed a varied diet, consisting of live, defrosted and pellet based feeds.

IMPORTANT: BETTAS STOMACHS ARE THE SAME SIZE AS THIER EYES!

PELLETS

High Quality Betta Pellets, not only offer an easy feeding routine, it provides your betta with a complete diet.

There are so many different brands to choose from, however for bettas you do want to look for high protein based, for us at The Aqua Factor our main brands are, BETTA BIO GOLD, ATINSONS BETTA PRO (PINK LID) and the FISH SCIENCE BETTA granules.

It is advised to soak pellets before feeding, pellets will swell up, so don't be fooled on the size of them, once they are in the water they will swell to 2-3 times their size.

What's also added into these pellet feeds are things such as vitamins and minerals, which will ensure your betta/s keep happy and healthy.

FROZEN FOODS

There are more natural ways to feed bettas and adding defrosted frozen feeds into your bettas diet, really will help your fish to thrive and ensure the colours of your fish really become vibrant, some of these frozen foods do contain extra added ingredients such as spirulina, omega 3s and other additives, which may also benefit your fish.

We feed a wide variety of defrosted foods such as:

  • Brine shrimp

LIVE FOODS

As with any foods, natural feeding is the best way to keep any animal, however live feed and cultures can be difficult to obtain and keep.

There are many different live foods, which can be purchased from your local aquatic shop.

Live food promote natural hunting behaviours and provide that much needed enrichment to your betta.

Live foods are highly nutritious and ensure your betta is provided that much needed protein within their diet.

Live foods consist of:

  • Brine shrimp

  • Monia

  • Daphnia

  • Tubifex Worms

  • Blood Worms

  • White Mosquito Larvae

  • Wingless Fruit Flies

Some of these can be cultured, if you are looking to culture your own live foods, I highly recommend that you carry out the research for this, it can be quite time consuming.

I would also recommend feeding wingless fruit flies, as these can promote some real enrichment to your bettas diet and hunting skills, its also quite fun to watch.
